  • Integrated advanced digital systems, reducing processing times and improving efficiency in handling tax-related queries and transactions.
  • Features open-plan layouts, collaborative spaces, and flexible workstations, fostering a dynamic and interactive work environment.
  • Unites 4,000 civil servants under one roof, streamlining operations and improving communication, supporting both in-office and remote working.

The HMRC Nottingham project, part of the Government Hubs Programme, delivers 270,000 sq ft of high-quality office space across 11 floors at Unity Square. This new hub is designed to support digital and flexible working, accommodating up to 4,000 civil servants from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and other departments.

Mace was re-appointed to fit out the space, following successful projects in Croydon and Bristol. The Nottingham hub features cutting-edge digital infrastructure, modern amenities, and sustainable furnishings, including folding walls and adaptable meeting rooms. The ground floor hosts HMRC’s Business Executive Suite, complete with meeting rooms and a café for client and visitor conferences.

The project aimed to replace smaller, outdated offices with a fluid, modern workspace that aligns with HMRC’s new digital-focused working methods. Despite challenges, including pandemic-related disruptions, the project was completed on time and within budget, thanks to meticulous pre-construction planning and the use of BIM 360 for quality control.

This new regional centre not only enhances HMRC’s operational efficiency but also supports their broader goals of maximizing revenue, increasing compliance, and reducing the tax gap. By creating a flexible, high-tech work environment, the HMRC Nottingham hub stands as a testament to the successful modernization of government workspaces.
