The Humber Marine Control Centre project, managed by Mace, supports the creation of a new marine centre in Grimsby to control shipping on the 60km Humber estuary. This development is the latest in a series of projects delivered for Associated British Ports (ABP), aimed at enhancing the safety and efficiency of the UK's busiest estuary.
Our expert project managers were tasked with integrating the existing facilities in Grimsby and replacing the Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) centre at Spurn Point. The new four-floor marine centre includes upgraded VTS and radar navigation systems at Hull, Goole, and Immingham, ensuring comprehensive coverage and improved guidance for vessels navigating the estuary.
A vital requirement was to maintain 24/7 operational continuity during the transition to the new system. Our team devised an innovative phasing strategy to ensure there was no disruption to the vital shipping operations. This careful planning and execution earned the project recognition for its award-winning project management.
In addition to constructing the new marine centre, we refurbished the existing Grimsby Port office to include a Marine Resilience Centre and VTS training centre. Our project managers successfully brought together numerous stakeholders, including the Dockmaster at Grimsby and several divisions of ABP, fostering a collaborative approach that was crucial to the project's success.
The Humber Marine Control Centre now stands as a testament to our commitment to delivering high-quality, innovative solutions that meet the complex needs of our clients and enhance the operational capabilities of the Humber estuary.
