  • Mace provided design review, project management and supervision services to Oman Airport Management Company (OAMC)
  • Mace managed the integration of 75 retail concessions and the delivery of premium-class lounges, enhancing the airport’s commercial offerings.
  • The expanded airport includes 29 new boarding bridges and can accommodate the world’s largest aircraft – the Airbus A380.

Since the airport opened in 1973, Oman has seen significant growth in both tourism and business trade, attracting people from across the world. Mace was contracted to oversee the delivery of the retail and commercial offerings in the new state-of-the-art passenger terminal, from concept design through to live operation.

Using our vast experience in airport expansion programmes we provided design review, project management and supervision services to Oman Airport Management Company (OAMC) for two large first-class and business class lounges.

Delivering a culturally specific experience to passengers traveling through Muscat International Airport was a priority. The Mace team worked to blend contemporary architecture with traditional Omani cultural elements. Features such as palm fronds ceilings, beaten metal wall panels, local stone, and plants were used throughout the terminal to reflect the local culture, creating a unique and memorable passenger experience.

Mace also managed the introduction of retail concessioners in three piers. Working alongside the Public Authority for Civil Aviation and their appointed consultants and contractors, we successfully managed the integration of 32,000m2 of shops, restaurants, cafes, lounges, leasable offices, staff canteens, and a hotel. The airport also increases aircraft capacity with 29 boarding bridges and accommodations for the Airbus A380. We accomplished much of this integration while the construction and completion of the shell and core works was on-going.

Muscat International Airport is a bright contemporary building within an ancient cultural setting that will leave visitors with positive, lasting memories of Oman and its people.
