Ageing estates. Budget restraints. Environmental impact. The education sector is under more pressure than ever before.
From schools trying to meet increasing numbers with specialist accommodation, to university estates facing demands from investors, educators and, importantly, students. Wide scale capital investment programmes to shared facilities for world class research. The need to meet tomorrow’s targets, with better quality, greener solutions at lower cost is one that’s hard to ignore.
We’re meeting that need head on. Our people have invaluable experience across the sector and around the world. From primary, secondary and special educational needs schools through to universities and entire campus developments. We are experts, leaders, partners.
As technology advances, education and programmes continue to evolve - as do the needs of students, academics, and society. Decarbonisation. Retrofit versus new build. Data-based decision making. The strides the industry has taken provide a fundamental opportunity for the education sector. Innovative design and delivery methods that impact quality, time, cost and carbon emissions, low-carbon material alternatives, more collaborative procurement models and the shift towards a production mindset. We are now in a place where we can redefine our ambitions, set more challenging targets, achieve more for future generations.
Delivering the inspired, robust and bespoke learning environments we need will take all the flexibility, adaptability and creativity we have to offer. As a sector and an industry. Working together. Central government, local authorities, academy trusts, universities and educational providers, consultants, contractors, suppliers. To refurbish, remodel and rationalise. Creating environments where pupils, students, communities can thrive.
Advancing world. Evolving sector.
Students are increasingly demanding modern, sustainable, and technologically advanced school buildings. They seek environments that support collaborative learning, digital literacy, and well-being. Additionally, there is a growing emphasis on inclusivity and accessibility to accommodate diverse learning needs. The most successful institutions are those that are willing to go the furthest in terms of finding creative solutions.
These solutions lie in innovative design, flexible spaces, cost effective, sustainable delivery. Connected. Intelligent. Creative. From 4D and 5D modelling to digital logistics, site and safety management tools, we apply the right technology to drive down costs, increase quality, surpass expectations.
A new type of academic campus
Resilient, innovative, collaborative. Part of the first phase of UCL’s new campus and its single largest building to date, Marshgate broke records, providing over 35,000sqm of transdisciplinary research, innovation, education and public engagement, under one roof for the very first time.
Inspired by a pioneering vision and forward-thinking design incorporating 30,000 m3 of exposed architectural concrete, the team adopted innovative delivery methods throughout. The resulting majestic building has the space and facilities to help solve some of the most pressing global challenges related to sustainability, climate change, technology transformation and health and wellbeing while also being robust and able to adapt to changing needs.
