Delivery. Scale. Legacy. Catalysts for change.
Our experience of delivering global events and iconic stadiums is one of breaking records, exceeding expectations and defying tradition.
From stadiums to observation wheels, expos to entertainment venues, these exceptional, complex and inspiring programmes and projects require the best we have to offer. Unrivalled regional expertise, exceptional engineering skills, global best practice in planning, design, procurement, delivery.
The result? A sense of destination, of national pride, of enduring legacy and memorable impact. Setting new standards in delivery partnerships, safety and sustainability. An integrated approach delivering distinctive value on some of the world’s most technical programmes of work.
These projects defy tradition, providing us with the challenge we relish. Sports and major events infrastructure that are so much more than buildings, involving the aspirations of whole nations, a legacy that celebrates creativity long after the crowds have dispersed. Leisure destinations that are so much more than facilities, providing vital spaces and infrastructure for local communities.
Each successful delivery, broken record, milestone achieved, allows us to push boundaries. From complex developments like Tottenham Hotspur stadium in London, to hyper-scale programmes like the Pan-American Games in Lima, we take the innovation and ambition into each new venture. Going beyond the venues. Leaving a legacy that continues to be written. A lasting imprint for future generations.
Making an impact. Leaving a legacy.
We seek to ensure that the impact of our venues is felt far beyond the events they are created for and the organisations they represent. Our aim is always lasting, positive benefits for the communities they serve.
Ahead of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games, we worked on the Queen Elizabeth Park and London Stadium as lead delivery partner. With construction of the five venues totalling £1.6bn, we set out to show that even complex programmes developed for a specific event can become vibrant community hubs serving future generations.
That’s why, in the years since the games, Mace has managed a project to transform London Stadium and the surrounding area, contributing to the creation of 110,000 additional jobs, 11,000 new homes, and a tenfold return in socioeconomic value. The games served as a catalyst for the development of new models of delivering infrastructure programmes, with an emphasis on leaving a positive legacy.
Collaboration. Trust. Results.
We have proudly pioneered the delivery partner approach since London 2012, and we’ve not stopped promoting it as the best way to deliver complex programmes since. Most notably in Lima 2019 and on the Expo 2020 in Dubai.
As agile partners, we tap into the best expertise and integrate seamlessly with our clients to understand their challenges. Our robust governance structure on Expo led to tight control of supply chain, guaranteeing on-time, on-budget delivery. Similarly, our leadership in Lima implemented a Safety, Health, Environmental, Leadership Team (SHELT). This enabled clear communication of priorities across health & safety and sustainability for the project’s duration.
Exceptional feats of engineering
Our observation wheels are feats of innovative engineering, setting new standards in safety during both use and construction. Ain Dubai, the world’s largest observation wheel opened its doors to the public in 2021 offering a stunning view of Dubai’s skyline. Standing at over 250 metres tall - nearly twice the size of the London Eye - the project’s scale and complexity required exceptional engineering and teamwork, breaking several construction records along the way.
Setting new standards for sustainability
We have led the way in sustainable delivery for decades. Finding more efficient ways to lead, manage and build major programmes. London 2012 alone was designed to be a pioneering sustainable event, from carbon emissions to food waste. Since then, subsequent programmes and projects have raised the bar on these ambitions.
Introducing Expo 2020 and its aim to be the most sustainable world expo in history. Sustainable urban development principles informed the approach at every stage; from the design and construction of the base build, temporary construction and overlay used during the event, to the legacy transition planning. 105 buildings achieved LEED Gold Certification with seven achieving Platinum. The joint venture also developed a Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory to implement a carbon reduction programme for Expo.
