Mace delivers for Oman Airports

Mace has completed the tenant fit-out management and supervision services for the integration of 20,000m2 of retail and commercial lounge space within the new passenger terminal building at Muscat International Airport in Oman.

The state of the art facility is 580,000m2 with 86 check in counters, 10 fully automated baggage reclaim carousels and 29 pier served aircraft stands with a growth capability of up to 12 million passengers per year, with future expansion allowing 48 million passengers per year to pass through the airport, catering for the latest and largest aircraft in operation today.

Appointed in 2016 and working directly for Oman Airports, Mace oversaw the delivery from concept design through to live operation of the new duty free and food and beverage concessions and two large first and business class lounges along with a number of other third party tenant spaces e.g. car rental counters, airline ticket agent and administrative offices, bank and ATM provisions, mobile phone network operators and hotel and tour operators.

Working alongside the Public Authority for Civil Aviation and their appointed consultants and contractors, Mace successfully managed the integration of 75 retail concessions into the new passenger terminal building while the construction and completion of the shell and core works was ongoing, culminating in a “go live” date in March 2018 for the official start of airport operations.

Providing support for tenants and concessionaires ranging from local handicraft stores through to international operators such as BTA, ARI, TAV and the national carrier Oman Air, Mace ensured that the agreed concession concepts awarded by Oman Airports in December 2016 were fully realised to establish Muscat International Airport firmly on the global airport map.

Jason Millett, COO for Consultancy, said:

“This is a fantastic achievement for our Oman team, delivering a challenging project that has delighted our client and passengers alike. This exemplar project is a perfect example of the type of work we’re looking to secure as part of our 2022 strategy for the business, targeting project and programme management and delivery partner roles in the aviation sector around the world.”

Shiekh Samer Al Nabhani, General Manager - Commercial Operations, Oman Airports, said:

“We are very proud to have successfully commenced operations in the New Muscat International Airport as of 20th March 2018. Mace worked on board with us in achieving the key milestones of the project as TFMS (Tenancy Fit out Management & Supervision) consultants. Mace were valuable partners who brought in their experience and qualification and supported the Commercial & Property team to bridge the gap and coordinate the project across the client, tenant & contractor divide in terms of getting the retail areas ready. We appreciate the work done by Mace and wish them success in their future projects”
