Mace appointed by Helical plc to deliver green tech-driven office in Farringdon

Mace, the international consultancy and construction company, has been appointed by Helical plc with their JV partners, Ashby Capital, as its construction partner to build 33 Charterhouse Street, a new office development in Farringdon.

Located adjacent to Farringdon Station, opposite the future Museum of London, the 200,000 sq. ft scheme will provide over 10 floors of technology enhanced office space, including three terraces and extensive views across central London.

Set to become one of Farringdon’s first smart buildings, the scheme will feature an integrated digital platform that will improve the building’s operational efficiency and support the workspace wellbeing experience for its occupiers, through an employee engagement app.

Leading the way in sustainability, the design of 33 Charterhouse Street was awarded the UK’s first BREEAM 2018 new construction rating of ‘Outstanding’.

Mace’s team will apply its sustainability expertise to reduce the embodied carbon through a variety of measures including, low carbon materials such as ‘Earth Friendly Concrete’ and sustainable design measures such as a connection to Citigen’s district energy network to supply heating and cooling demand, solar PV panels and a biodiverse green roof.

33 Charterhouse Street is the third project Mace is delivering for Helical plc. This follows Mace’s recent completion of the Kaleidoscope, a commercial building delivered on a complex island site, above Crossrail’s Farringdon East station and One Bartholomew Close offering 223,000 sq. ft of flexible office space in the heart of the City.

33 Charterhouse Street is expected to complete in September 2022.

Gareth Lewis, CEO for Construction at Mace, said:

“We are excited to take on the delivery of 33 Charterhouse Street for Helical plc. The project marks the continuation of our collaborative working relationship, and we are delighted to be the contractor of choice. The scheme’s challenges play to our strengths and Mace is committed to delivering an exceptional office space at 33 Charterhouse Street.”

Ged Simmonds, MD Commercial Offices and Residential at Mace, said:

“We’re proud to work on such an ambitious project, which will raise the standard for sustainable office developments. The BREEAM outstanding recognition is a result of the strong commitment from everyone involved and we will continue to drive carbon reductions during delivery.”

Pavlos Clifton, Senior Development Executive, Helical plc, said:

“We are delighted to work with Mace on our third project to deliver 33 Charterhouse Street. The team’s experience and track record in building smart, sustainable developments is aligned with Helical’s own commitment to service excellence, sustainability and driving innovation.”
