Mace celebrates completion of Gordon Murray Automotive’s supercar production facility

Mace, the global construction and consultancy business, celebrates the completed construction of premium British vehicle manufacturer Gordon Murray Automotive’s (GMA’s) newly-built bespoke global Group HQ at Higham’s Park, located in Windlesham, Surrey, UK.

The new campus will be the Group’s global HQ – home to a purpose-built 4,300 square metre Vehicle Production Centre, Customer Excellence Centre, Aftersales and Bespoke Centre, and the Gordon Murray Heritage collection.

The site also features a specially-designed Vehicle Dynamics Test Road, used for final validation and pre-delivery checks of new GMA supercars.

Mace was selected as delivery partner for the development of the campus. This included the site wide infrastructure, roadways, parking areas, swales, lake, landscaping and a ‘test road’ for pre-delivery testing.

A double height space houses an assembly area which is serviced by in floor trenches, allowing rapid reconfiguration to suit the different requirements of each car production.

A bespoke car lift was installed to transport cars from the pre-delivery and aftersales area to the 1st floor customer handover display area, with heritage areas including a selection of Professor Gordon Murray’s influential heritage collection.

The construction project embraced sustainability throughout, including the reduction in diesel usage and using HVO alternative fuel.

When planning the works to convert the meadow lands, careful sequencing minimised the impact to the neighbourhood, local wildlife and ecology.

Stewart Ward, Managing Director for Mace Fitout & Retrofit, said:

“We are thrilled to have supported the creation of such a unique and visionary project. Working closely alongside Gordon Murray’s project team, we have delivered industry leading quality in service, construction and fit out at the new, state-of-the-art headquarters.”

Phillip Lee, CEO for Gordon Murray Group:

The new Gordon Murray Automotive HQ at Highams Park represents a significant investment for the business and is a statement of intent for the company’s future. It is extremely satisfying that we’re able to continue T.50 manufacturing at the new site, while also streamlining production of T.33.

“Following the move to Highams Park, where all future GMA models will be produced, the company is on course to complete all 100 exclusive T.50 customer cars. The build of the 25 track-only T.50s Niki Lauda models will follow the completion of the T.50 run. Next, the production team will transfer to building the T.33 coupe, before that supercar’s open-top sibling – the T.33 Spider – enters the Highams Park Vehicle Production Centre.

“The move to the new HQ will bring significant manufacturing efficiencies. The purpose-built site consolidates logistics, parts supply, and testing, while supercar production teams benefit from the latest technologies and optimised production layout, boosting efficiency, cross-team collaboration, and production quality.”
