Mace joins The Climate Pledge and Race to Zero

Mace has announced its latest step in driving down carbon emissions in the construction industry by signing up to The Climate Pledge and, in turn, joining Race to Zero.

Since January 2020 Mace has been on a journey to increase efforts and greater collaboration across the industry – becoming a net zero carbon business and publicly sharing its achievements along the way.

Today’s announcement cements Mace’s commitment to transforming its business practices and encouraging bolder action across the industry.

The Climate Pledge (TCP) was co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism in September 2019 as a commitment to meet The Paris Agreement 10 years early.

It calls on signatories to be net zero carbon across their businesses by 2040 and commit to three principal areas of action:

1. Regular reporting – measure and report greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis.

2. Carbon elimination – implement decarbonisation strategies in line with the Paris Agreement through real businesses changes and innovations, including efficiency improvements, renewable energy, materials reductions, and other carbon emission elimination strategies.

3. Credible offsets – neutralise any remaining emissions with additional quantifiable, real, permanent, and socially beneficial offsets to achieve new zero annual carbon emissions by 2040.

Mace has worked with We Mean Business to join the existing signatories and additional companies which have signed up today, to form a community in the fight against climate change.

Mark Reynolds, Mace Group CEO said:

“We’re excited to commit to The Climate Pledge and Race to Zero alongside other companies who are showing their ambitious sustainability commitments. While our industry has taken steps to protect the planet by becoming more sustainable, what we have collectively achieved isn’t enough. We need to transform the way we build, refurbish, operate, and repurpose the built environment. Bold commitments and far-reaching targets will set the benchmark for our industry, and we look forward to helping lead the way as a part of The Climate Pledge.”

Signatories to the Pledge will share access to technologies, best practices, and innovations in supply chain enhancements. They are also able to create joint action to address the most critical climate challenges.
