Mace Operate announces management buy-out from Mace Group to form independent FM business, Macro
Mace Operate, the facilities management division of global consultancy and construction company Mace Group, has announced a management buy-out under the name ‘Macro.’
The buyout has been led by Ross Abbate, Mace Operate’s CEO; Chris Bampton, Mace Operate’s CFO; and Mark Holmes, who recently announced his intention to step down as Mace Group’s Deputy Chairman. Mark will become Chair of the newly independent company.
Macro, formally known as Mace Operate, is now an independent facilities management company employing more than 700 people around the globe, with an annual turnover of £130m. The business will continue to provide market-leading facilities management services to some of the world’s largest brands.
Macro and Mace Group will retain a close relationship, with a transitional services agreement in place for the next nine months to enable the new business to establish its independence. Over the long term, Macro will act as a “preferred supplier” for Mace Group’s own facilities management services; as well as exploring potential future joint servicing offers to existing clients.
The move will allow Macro to invest in a more targeted way in the future of the workplace – enabling the innovation, new service offerings and infrastructure required to meet the changing needs of its clients – and in turn, Mace will be able to focus on its core service offerings more closely as a global consultancy and construction company.
The name Macro refers to the name of the Operate business from 2002-2020. It also represents the business’ future: a big-picture perspective, long-term client relationships, and the ability to make everyday tasks simpler and more efficient.
Ross Abbate, Macro’s Chief Executive Officer, said:“Over the past 21 years, Macro has established itself as a leading facilities management expert under the umbrella of the Mace Group – and now, as an independent company we will be able to build on that success to invest in new and transformed services for our clients and create fantastic new opportunities for Macro colleagues across the globe. Chris and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to lead this brilliant team on the next step in our journey together.”
Mark Reynolds, Mace Group’s Chair and Chief Executive, said:“As the Group’s core services have gone from strength to strength over the past few years, it has been clear that there is more opportunity for Macro to grow as an independent business. The team will now be able to invest in the innovation and infrastructure required to develop and grow a world-leading facilities management service.
“We understand the power of an independent company owned and led by those who understand it best. We look forward to working with Ross and Chris as they build their new business – and we wish them every success in the future.”
