Paragon (Mace and Turner & Townsend) secures three-year strategic contract extension with the MOD

Paragon, a joint venture led by Mace and Turner & Townsend, has secured a three-year contract extension on existing work as the Commercial Delivery Partner for MOD Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S).

Providing support to the MOD DE&S and Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA), the Paragon joint venture comprises Mace, Turner & Townsend, PWC, Efficio and Gardiner & Theobald.

DE&S is responsible for the procurement and in-service contract management of around £16bn per year on equipment for the UK armed forces. This includes ships, aircraft, armoured fighting vehicles, and other weaponry. The SDA has responsibility for submarines.

The Commercial Delivery Partner contract consists of a team with over 200 members. After running successfully for five years, the existing contract will now run until June 2025 – with an optional two-year extension remaining.

Whilst continuing to support its JV partners in procurement and commercial resource consultancy for DE&S and the SDA, Mace’s responsibility includes supporting on project delivery and wider commercial transformation, including strategic initiatives such as category and supplier management.

The contract extension builds on Paragon and its partners’ extensive experience in the defence and security sectors, providing a wide range of fully integrated project and programme management services. Paragon continues to act as a trusted delivery partner for the UK’s defence sector, delivering distinctive value in some of the world's most technically complex programmes of work.

Andy Oldham, Business Unit Director - Defence, Energy, Nuclear & Utilities, Mace said:

“Our contract extension is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work of our Mace team within Paragon over the last five years. We are continuing to build Mace’s experience and track record in the defence sector, providing critical management services to shape some of the country’s most important defence projects and programmes.

“It has been a great experience optimising value for money support to the MOD and making a visible difference to our frontline forces. We look forward to building on the successes of the existing contract to continue delivering for the MOD.”

David Whysall, Managing Director of UK Infrastructure, Turner & Townsend said:

“We are proud to have played an integral role in driving commercial transformation at DE&S alongside our Paragon partners. Our strong heritage in major programme commercial management and global, cross sector experience has been key to helping raise commercial capability and delivering better outcomes through the programmes we have been involved in.

“We look forward to continuing this successful collaboration to support DE&S on their ongoing transformation over the next three years and delivering even greater value for the UK defence sector.”
