Cath Shaw
Deputy Chief Executive for Barnet Council
In 2020, Mace was appointed as Barnet Council’s delivery partner for the construction of Brent Cross West railway station – an impressive new transport hub providing the gateway to the £8bn Brent Cross Town development in North London.
The four-platform station covers around 7,000 square metres and connects passengers between central London and Brent Cross in as little as 12 minutes with up to eight Thameslink services an hour at peak times.
Mace acted as the programme manager and client’s representative for the complex programme, which consisted of numerous multi-phase rail construction projects being undertaken by many different subcontractors and with various stakeholders involved. This complex picture called for close coordination throughout. Drawing on an extensive history of leading integrated teams, we enhanced our core project management responsibilities with a range of consultancy skills, including stakeholder and interface management, construction management, cost consultancy, as well as safety, sustainability and social value advisory.
Our holistic approach placed us at the centre of a complex picture, allowing us to effectively support our client (Barnet Council) and other critical infrastructure owners and stakeholders throughout the programme.
Cath Shaw, Deputy Chief Executive for Barnet Council, explains how Mace was central to delivering this community-centred and sustainable railway station that is playing a key role in enabling the creation of a new park town for North London.
“Mace has played a really important role in pulling the whole thing together and being the council’s eyes and ears on site to make sure the overall project management, bringing together all of the different contractors, went really smoothly.”
