Why mace?

Taking the stage

Knowing that ‘one size doesn’t fit all’ for construction management, our contracting service can be procured under two-stage, fixed price, traditional or management forms of contract. We have experienced every form of contract and can confidently offer the same quality of service whatever the choice of procurement route: from early involvement through a two-stage route, to getting involved once the design, costs and programme have been fixed under a traditional single-stage contract, or to the early buildability and programming input of a management contracting approach.

We understand that each project is different; simply put, the procurement method needs to be innovative, efficient and flexible enough to deliver the best outcome for the client. Our response is a tailored model for each client that drives best long-term value and ensures continuous improvement.

A RELATIONSHIP BUSINESS

Our formula is simple: relationships are key, whether it be with architects, designers, clients or the delivery team itself. We specialise in building teams that are aligned to the objectives of each individual project. This approach is inbuilt across the business and takes shape on a project as part of the planning process to ensure that the client gets the best possible outcome. Maintaining open and frank conversations with everyone involved throughout a project can be challenging, but to us it is imperative to the success of our projects.

A RESPONSIBLE APPROACH

This extends to the communities in which we work and the responsibility we owe to them. In 2015 we became the first contractor in the world to become a member of the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (Sedex), empowering sustainable and ethical supply chains. We were among the first companies to sign up to the World Wildlife Fund’s forest campaign, we are lead sponsor for Green Sky Thinking and have partnered with the British Occupational Hygiene Society. In 2016 alone, over 20 of our projects received awards at the Considerate Contractors Scheme National Site Awards. Our commitment to the communities that we work in are something that we are very proud of.

SAFE FOUNDATIONS

If relationships are the key to our contracting business, then our approach to health and safety is most definitely the foundation on which everything we do rests. We are proud to be one of the industry leaders in safety performance and management. A construction site can be a dangerous place, and so we work hard to empower our employees and supply chain to tackle problems head on. Our health and safety team coach, challenge, guide and support on health and safety company policy and development, while also providing leadership and local compliance. We want to create working environments where everyone acts responsibly, feels able to speak up about safety and recognises best practice. We have won a number of awards and accolades for this work but it is about more than just recognition, we simply want to create a culture where putting safety first is second nature and make sure that our people and everyone who comes on to our sites, go home safe at the end of the day, every day.

A MODEL OF INTEGRATION

For any contractor to succeed there has to be an effective and well established supply chain. We understand this is one of the basic rules of our business and so maintain strong relationships with our supply chain, whether this be on site, through training by our Business School or our commitment to fair payment through the Construction Supply Chain Payment Charter in conjunction with Build UK. Our supply chain integration model has proved itself by providing flexibility through open engagement, partnership working and removal of contractual barriers. We know we are only as strong as the people we work with and our suppliers are the backbone of our contracting offer.
