Architecture, engineering and design services

We are experts at managing and delivering design - drawing on the knowledge from a wide range of disciplines to tailor a project specifically to our client’s needs.

Every building project is dependent on a successful design process. It dictates the nature and complexity of the build, defining the resources needed, the time taken and the overall outcome. Our clients look to us to come up with better solutions, innovations and ideas in order to create a framework that always adds value and delivers results.

We have the in-house ability in place to offer a complete integrated design service for our clients. Our teams are made up of experienced project managers, architects, structural and building services engineers, landscape and interior designers, master planners and urban regeneration specialists, working in close collaboration with our other construction services.

We have a deep understanding of the full project lifecycle across education, public and private estates, residential, commercial office and urban regeneration sectors. Our portfolio ranges from small scale extensions and refurbishments to large scale programmes valued at £500m.

These are areas we can draw on when helping to plan and design a particular project. We approach multidisciplinary design by encompassing the consultancy services required to deliver a building, through a single integrated team.

We are completely transparent about the processes we devise, using everything from 3D visualisation to BREEAM assessments to explain our thoughts and reassure our clients.

Why Mace?

Client focus

Every decision we make is rooted in what’s best for our clients. Our agile, fast-paced approach means we constantly work with our clients to challenge the status quo, searching for a better way. As a result, our clients always receive a flexible, scalable and controlled approach.

Managing the process

We have worked with clients across the private and public sectors, from total rebuilds to refurbishments, establishing the exact requirements of the project with a dedicated project manager on hand at all times.

Award winning service

We are proud recipients of many prestigious industry awards that reflect our pedigree and award our commitment and performance in health and safety, engineering excellence, partnership and collaboration, construction delivery and the environment.

Striking facades

Our facade engineering team is made up of dedicated in-house specialists who have formerly worked for world class cladding sub-contractors, main contractors and facade engineering consultancies. They will work to create a facade with a profound impact, interacting seamlessly with the environment.

Framework and secondment

Finding the right people and experts, applying them to the project for the right amount of time and coordinating their work with everything else relies on an effective framework. Over the last 15 years we have developed expertise in seconding staff onto project, programmes and frameworks allowing clients to benefit directly from our people who have a wide variety of technical skill sets.

Iconic achievements

We have the breadth of experience to handle both large and small projects and programmes. When working on The Shard, we had to rethink some of the basic principles of construction and use radical techniques to go higher, faster. We developed a host of engineering solutions to get The Shard built, and a programme planned down to the finest detail. For Hertfordshire County Council, we developed an innovative DfMA process (design for manufacture and assembly), delivering 18 primary school expansions in 18 months. Our recently completed refurbishment of Senate House has revitalised an otherwise redundant grade II* iconic building, while our development of Sky's campus in west London has delivered 120 square metres of cutting-edge media headquarters.

“The refurbished Senate House North Block will offer state-of-the-art research, teaching and student provision, all in one precinct, and create a centralised 21st century campus for our world class institution. The architecturally revolutionary design honours the heritage of the building and caters to the needs of our students, staff and visitors.”

“The added value of our design offer is in creating thoughtful, well-made buildings that articulate a thorough understanding of our client’s brief while adding elements that lift the environment beyond the prosaic. In short, our design philosophy is to create pragmatic, well made, delightful buildings.”
