Mace among first to achieve new international BIM standard

Mace, the global consultancy and construction company, has become one of the first companies in the world to be awarded the new ISO 19650 Building Information Modelling (BIM) accreditation.

The new accreditation, approved by the International Standards Organisation (ISO) in December 2018, is an international version of the current UK 1192 standards and the UK Government’s BIM Level 2 mandate.

Mace is amongst the first companies in the world to be awarded the accreditation, which will enable it to demonstrate compliance with BIM standards internationally. It provides an assurance to clients that Mace is able to provide effective and compliant BIM services anywhere around the world.

BIM allows for increased efficiencies and performance across the whole life-cycle of a built environ-ment asset. By manging information through a shared digital model, it helps to facilitate design, con-struction, maintenance and finally the de-commissioning processes. BIM is a process supported by technology and software that can take several different forms.

The award of the accreditation reflects a significant investment by Mace into embedding BIM processes and technology across the organisation. Mace’s use of BIM across a wide range of projects and sectors – from residential, infrastructure and retail, to education and arts and culture – means that the company is one of the leading proponents of the technology in the UK.

Mark Reynolds, Mace’s Chief Executive Officer, said:

"As the use of BIM becomes more widespread across the whole built environment life cycle it becomes more important than ever that organisations are appropriately accredited to provide these complex services.

“The creation of the new standard and its link to the existing UK’s Government’s BIM mandate is a clear endorsement of the UK’s progressive approach to delivering innovation in construction. It will help to support the growing export market for UK consultancy and construction services.”
