'Our Pride Unity Installation’ sculpture unveiled at Mace’s global HQ
Mace, the global consultancy and construction company, has unveiled a collaborative installation at its global headquarters, in the City of London, to mark Pride Month. The sculpture, made up of more than 40 bespoke wooden panels ‘slotted’ together into a bench, was created using sustainable materials, some of which were reclaimed from the construction company’s sites.
The elements of the sculpture were cut and painted on several different sites by different trades in a joint effort before being assembled. It had been designed to encourage organic conversations by creating a striking talking point that creates unity among colleagues, friends and strangers and inspires everyone to be free and open with no barriers to personal preferences.
Pride month is celebrated every June by the LGBTQ+ community and its allies, allowing everyone to embrace and accept diversity. It is also a time to consider and discuss LGBTQ+ issues.
The month is particularly poignant for the construction industry, with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) saying that 60% of LGBTQ+ employees have experienced homophobic and derogatory terms at work.
Mace’s 2026 Business Strategy outlines the aspiration to become the most inclusive employer of choice in the industry. As part of this, the “Pride at Mace” employee network group - which champions the LGTBQ+ agenda - is dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all employees.
Ian McIver, Co-Chair of the Pride at Mace Employee Network Group, said:
“We know there are untold benefits to having a truly diverse workplace - from increased innovation to the wisdom of different viewpoints – and we are delighted to be supporting Pride Month in this unique way.
“We hope the sculpture will be a place for colleagues, friends and strangers to gather, reflect and discuss diversity and inclusion for all of June, and beyond.
“The legacy of what we have created together will live on at Mace long after Pride Month has ended, as it will be moved to our café to continue this important conversation among our colleagues as we, as a sector, continue to become more inclusive.’’
The sculpture will be located in the lobby of Mace’s office on Moorgate until the end of June and will be moved to the in-house café for use by Mace people after the conclusion of Pride Month.
The company is further marking the month by taking part in the Pride in London Parade, from Hyde Park Corner to Whitehall Place, on 1 July.
Mace would like to thank these trades/projects who gave incredible support and assistance for this installation: Chapter Living (plywood supply and cutting), Begbroke Science Park (plywood supply and cutting), 40 Leadenhall (paint and painters), Amenities Hub (logistics, carpenters and painting location), Project Laureate (logistics, carpenters and painting location), Getjar (plywood provision and cutting), Rainsford Carpentry (plywood provision and cutting), DGP Logistics (plywood cutting), Clipfine (general assistance, logistics and plywood provision and cutting), Lucas (painting and assembly assistance) and Bolon UK (vinyl flooring).
