Mace appoints new head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing for construction

Mace, the global consultancy and construction company, has appointed Kari Sprostranova to lead the health, safety and wellbeing strategy for its construction business. 

Kari joins from Balfour Beatty where she was a Director of Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability, leading the organisation’s health & safety standards and practices across UK construction services and helping to launch its sustainability strategy.

Before she joined Balfour Beatty, Kari held a senior role at the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). She acted as Principal Inspector, leading and managing a front-line team of inspectors delivering field activities in the construction sector.

Kari has been at the forefront of transforming health and safety practices in the construction industry. Her experience ranges from working with trade associations and industry to improve health and safety knowledge in SME’s, to regulating and supporting major project work in South West London and the City of London. 

At Mace, Kari will help drive the organisation’s work in safety by design, eliminating risks from the earliest stages of projects. From offsite manufacturing and other advanced methods of delivery, Kari’s work will be focussed on implementing new and safer ways of working. 

Mace has set ambitious goals for 2026 in its new business strategy, and Kari’s appointment is vital to the organisation’s vision for setting new health, safety and wellbeing standards across all projects, driving change in the construction industry.
